Erik Konka Slim Jim OTL tube power amp - diy kit
Erik Konka, a highly respected tube amplifier designer from Tartu, designed a high-quality OTL monoblock amplifier for UralTone customers. The amplifier output section utilizes four 6080 / 6AS7 / 6N13S double triodes. Power output for 8 ohm is 20W. The driver stage is powered by a 6V6 pair and the front stage has one ECC82 tube.

OTL stands for output transformerless, i.e. the output tubes drive the speaker directly, without an output transformer. Designing and manufacturing audio transformers is expensive and challenging, so transformers are kind of a bottleneck in many devices. In addition, the reactive terminal transformer acts as a brake between the amplifier and the speakers, so the speed and sharpness of the OTL amplifier is at an excellent level. There are many opinions, but for more than 70 years, OTL amplifiers have had a loyal group of supporters who, once they get used to them, do not easily switch to other amp systems.
- Tubes: 4 x 6080 or 6AS7 or 6N13S + 2 x (matched pair) 6V6 + 1 x ECC82 / 12AU7
- monoblock, stereo listening, you need 2 amplifiers
- Power approx. 20W @ 8ohm.
- Impedance recommendation min 8 ohms. The output power increases with higher impedances.
Due to the large case, building the amp is easy and fun. The circuit board is well designed and the layout is clear. It is very difficult to make mistakes when building this, if you remember to be careful and check that the right part goes in the right place in the right direction.
The building set includes all parts in one channel, including wooden frames. If you are interested in buying a kit without woodfen frame or metal plates, you can contact us directly by email and we will look at the offer for the desired package.
The price includes unlimited technical support via e-mail.
